Protect server with fail2ban on CentOS/RH/Oracle Linux

Fail2ban scans log files (e.g. /var/log/apache/error_log) and bans IPs that show the malicious signs -- too many password failures, seeking for exploits, etc.

yum install fail2ban

Make a copy of the configuration file.

cp /etc/fail2ban/jail.conf /etc/fail2ban/jail.local

Both configuration files work. We will make changes to /etc/fail2ban/jail.local

Put your own ip to the ignoreip section.

service fail2ban restart
