How to Install Apache HTTP Server on Linux

For Ubuntu:

Within your instance, run the following commands:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install apache2

For CentOS/RHEL:

  1. Make sure the operating system firewall is disabled.
    # Save your iptable settings
    $ sudo service iptables save
    # Stop the iptables service
    $ sudo service iptables stop
    # Disable iptables on startup.
    $ sudo chkconfig iptables off
  2. Install Apache using the following commands:
    $ sudo yum install httpd
    Installed size: 3.6 M
    Is this ok [y/N]: y
    $ sudo service httpd start
    Starting httpd:                                            [  OK  ]


$ sudo zypper update
$ sudo zypper in apache2
$ sudo service httpd start

For Debian:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install apache2
