Reset MySQL Root Password

  1. Stop the MySQL Server. sudo /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
  2. Start the mysqld configuration. sudo /etc/init.d/mysqld start --skip-grant-tables &
  3. Login to MySQL as root. mysql -u root
  4. UPDATE mysql.user SET authentication_string = PASSWORD('MyNewPass'), password_expired = 'N' WHERE User = 'root' AND Host = 'localhost'; FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
